Election Day Prayers

Protestor this morning in Nairobi.

Kenya's democracy is tested as protests spread over disputed rerun election. - LA Times

Please pray today - throughout the day - for the Prince of Peace to reign in Kenya.  The people are going to the polls for a second time in 60 days because the Supreme Court annulled the first election in August due to improprieties and irregularities.

The problem today is the opposition leader has withdrawn from the election due to what he considers insufficient election reforms and he asking his large following to boycott the election in hopes the Supreme Court will declare the second election invalid as well.

There is potential of protests, violence, and civil unrest from Parliament all the way down to police and health care unions.  The picture above, and the headline are a link to an article summarizing the situation in the LA Times but if you google Kenya today you will find plenty of information.

This email is not intended to cause alarm, our family is safe in our compound and in our neighborhood, but the vast majority of Kenyans are not so fortunate.  Pray also that if King Jesus allows for chaos that our organization would be ready to be the hands and feet of Jesus serving and helping the ones who need it.

A few weeks ago I taught a Sunday School lesson from Proverbs 24:10-12 and this passage is applicable today for my family, for other families in our organization, and for the many Kenyan churches who have a chance to be the aroma of Christ in the midst of violence and clashes in a hurting and divided nation.

If you faint in the day of adversity,
your strength is small.
Rescue those who are being taken away to death;
hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter.
If you say, “Behold, we did not know this,”
does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?
Does not he who keeps watch over your soul know it,
and will he not repay man according to his work?

Proverbs 24:10-12 (ESV)
Pray for peace, but pray if that violence and protest erupt, that his people would rise to the occasion to bless the city.

We love you each and thank you for lifting our family and ministry up the throne of heaven.  We know he hears our prayers and is pleased when we place all of our faith in his sovereign control over not just Kenya but the universe!

I will try to keep you update from the ground over the next few days.

Pressing forward,

Stephen
